This refers to the item "Early bird" (Chinese Whispers, July 3). There is nothing like one's own discipline as a model. A leader is like an entrepreneur who marshals resources at his disposal, provides guidance and direction, bears the uncertainty of results, and gets the best out of his team. Home Minister Rajnath Singh's approach to the people's reactions and expectations is what is required in a democracy. What the public thinks of the government and how governance should be improved on the basis of the inputs from those who know where the shoe pinches would be the best way to go forward. Bureaucracy in this country has lots of talent and creamy layers of well-meaning officials. But its potential can be harnessed only by the right leadership that could understand the inner nuances of its functioning. It works well or it never works. Making it work is the passionate job of the leader.
