This refers to the report "No Indian university on BRICS top-10 list" (June 18). Indian varsities not finding a place in the top-10 Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) universities is a writing on the wall for the authorities concerned. They need to work hard to catch up with other countries by improving the declining standards of education. The country will suffer as long as we have the political class meddling in the day-to-day affairs of education. What was the necessity to make the Class X board exams optional and introduce the open-book system in examinations? Tri-semester exams, no doubt, unburden the heavy load of studies for students, but in the long-term its deleterious effect is huge.
