Letters: A little anxiety

With reference to the article, "Selling reforms on Independence Day" (August 17) by A K Bhattacharya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on August 15, unveiled his vision for India, made several promises and announced new schemes and initiatives. He refused to become a prisoner of protocol, identifying himself before the masses as Pradhan Sevak instead of Pradhan Mantri.

Modi did initiate a motley of economic and social reforms. From the establishment of NITI Aayog and MUDRA Bank to the launch of flagship programmes such as Make in India, Digital India, Skill India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, AMRUT, Smart Cities as well as crop insurance, irrigation and social security schemes, the Modi government has made concerted efforts to build a better India. This year, however, there was a little anxiety in Modi's tone, probably realisation of the fact that citizens cannot be taken for a ride with mere flowery words.
