This refers to A K Bhattacharya's column "Winds of change in Parliament" (New Delhi Diary, December 10). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will have to rein in some of its members from going viral and caustic. The economic and other progressive reforms can only be achieved if the various Bills are passed to empower the government to implement its policies. It is, therefore, necessary that Parliament functions without any interruptions. Some of the over-enthusiastic BJP members make controversial statements and impede the progress of various legislative measures proposed by the government. There is also an urgent need to reduce the hostility between the BJP and Trinamool Congress. Being political adversaries does not justify virulent attacks on each other. Senior leaders in the BJP will have to show some political skills and rely more on consultation rather than confrontation.
