The editorial “Ball in Asia’s court” (December 8) rightly points out that the choice of Quatar as the World Cup 2022 host augurs well not only for Asia but also for football as a sport. Football is in the growth stage in Asia and such an event could provide the necessary impetus particularly in West Asia. Also, the acquisition interests shown by many Asians in the European clubs recently indicate a change in the overall economic scenario. Rather than being pessimistic about it, the English press would do well to understand its long-term implications, which would ultimately help the game of football.
