Letters: Action and reaction

Business Standard New Delhi

I fully agree with Raj Bhatia’s views in his letter ‘Unintended Benefits’, January 5.

Further, since the media owners also belonged to the same Mercedes-driving, champagne-sipping crowd, a lot of hullabaloo was made. However the biggest reaction was when the attack on Parliament took place, when unfortunately, according to the common man, no neta was killed. In fact, in the mobilisation of the army for Operation Parakram, to satisfy the egos of the netas, 400 soldiers died without Pakistan firing a single shot. Through the type of reactions on various incidents, the political class has in fact sent out a message — do what you want to the hoi polloi but don’t touch us.

In contrast to the manner in which the identities of the attackers were revealed in the recent terrorist attack, with their photographs being carried by all leading English dailies, why was the same not done with those accused as terrorists in the Parliament attack? What were their names, addresses, how about their photographs? Evidently there is something to be hidden.
