Getting Aamir Khan to deliver a pep talk to finance ministry bureaucrats (“Finance ministry seeks Idiot’s tip to tackle Budget blues”, January 7) is a great way to get headlines, but of limited value. If the government was seriously interested in looking at ways to develop team spirit and provide intellectual stimulation, it would have done well to get some inspiring speakers from the corporate and management world — interestingly, at around the same time, a leading newspaper will have a renowned management guru speaking to top corporate chiefs. Whether you look at the Tata Nano or the Swach, corporate India is full of inspiring stories of change in mindset that have completely transformed it. It is a pity the government chose to do nothing and just opted for some gimmickry. The good thing, of course, is that it will provide some star value to the retreat.
