It is good that Haryana is planning to try and become an education hub and is getting an IIM, an AIIMS as well as other colleges in its Education City at Sonepat. The proximity to various top industrial/service units in the state will also help the students in their placement efforts. If India has to reach its potential and be able to find employment for its millions, the only way out is providing education. And once there are enough top-class institutions, even the need for reservations will soon fade away — instead of reservations, the issue will then shift to scholarships for those who cannot afford them. But those trying to build these institutions must keep in mind that quality institutions are not made by buildings, they are made by the people they have. That means taking care of issues like salaries, academic environment, freedom to work and so on.
