I agree with the views expressed in the edit “Poverty of debate” (October 4). However, I feel that there has always been a lot of talk on poverty in the country with no real solutions being offered.

Who is poor? How to define poverty? How many Indians are living below the poverty line or above it? Such questions have often been debated on by economists, educationists and journalists. But unfortunately, discussions on poverty lead to mere criticism of the government with the so-called English-speaking social-activists and members of various think tanks making half-baked statements.
