Post independence, there have been enough, if not many, instances in the country in which top officials from the judiciary and politicians (including former prime ministers) have come under scrutiny for corruption charges. Given this, Kapil Sibal’s plea to exclude the prime minister, MPs and the higher judiciary from the purview of the Lok Pal Bill will only perpetuate corruption. I would like to understand what is wrong with putting them under the Lok Pal’s scrutiny — and hope that the argument will not be limited to the plea that the UK and the US do not have such an arrangement.
