This refers to the report "Terror attack kills 12 at Paris magazine" (January 8). The incident at the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris is most deplorable. It is an eye-opener to the fact that extremist elements are fanning out across continents. Unless they are taken seriously and handled firmly by all civilised elements of society, this will turn out to be a clear and current danger in no time for the entire world.
While it is not right to support the portrayal of a religion in such a way that it hurts the sentiments of people at large (not knowing the exact content of the post that could have triggered the attack), protests against such posts could have been done in a peaceful and logical manner.
To uphold fairness, justice and personal independence, a free, unbiased and open press is the strongest requirement. We must condemn and act firmly when such heinous attacks are initiated against this medium.
