In her criticism of the Railway Budget, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said it was "anti-poor" and "anti-people". She has a point, but isn't she somewhat responsible for this situation? Had Banerjee backed former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi in his Railway Budget when the Trinamool Congress and the Congress were in alliance, this situation would not have arisen. The bone of contention was the passenger fare increase, leading to her party breaking its alliance with the Congress. Nevertheless, fares have been raised today. So, what did she achieve by not supporting Trivedi's decision to raise passenger fares? In fact, she set a bad example by going against a member of her own party.
