This refers to the obituary to B K S Iyengar "The man who popularised yoga in the West" (August 21). With the death of B K S Iyengar, the world has lost an Indian-born yoga guru who taught the healthy way to get on with our stressed lives. In a world in which sophisticated medical care is in abundance, Iyengar acted as a one-man, unofficial caregiver through his simple body movements to cure many medical conditions. That his ardent followers are spread across the globe stands testimony to the growing power of Iyengar yoga. Though we ape the West in more ways than one, Iyengar showed that the global village has a thing or two to learn from a humble man from this part of the world.
