The present political crisis in Pakistan is nothing but the result of the past mistakes committed by President Asif Ali Zardari and former military leader Pervez Musharraf. In a democratic country, the demands of Opposition parties should be taken into consideration and given due respect.
The demands of Pakistan’s Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif are reasonable and open-minded as his requests included the reinstatement of a group of judges including the former Supreme Court Chief Justice Chaudhary, fired by Musharraf in a suspicious and partial manner that was condemned by the countries all over the world.
The ongoing protests that include the scenes of lawyers taking to street in an unprofessional manner with bamboo sticks in their hands have shown that Pakistan is back to square one with political and legal stability hanging in the balance.
Pakistan is now in dire need of a strong and transparent government with honest politicians at the helm of affairs. Otherwise, it will collapse under the weight of its own contradictions at any point in time.
