Letters: Background check

Business Standard New Delhi

This refers to the news report “Rajat Gupta resigns from 3 corporate boards” (March 9). Every big corporation claims that its recruitment process is tough and candidates are not only required to possess high professional skills but they should also score high on ethical values to be part of the firm’s management team. Even junior managerial employees are asked to sign an undertaking of non-disclosure of vital company information to outsiders up to a specific period even after leaving the company. Such undertaking is probably never insisted upon in the case of high-profile luminaries appointed to non-executive board-level positions, and their shining rich resume is considered sufficient. It is hoped wisdom will dawn on corporations and they will realise the significance of a background check.
