Business Standard New Delhi
The Janata Parivar alliance in Bihar is similar to the combo deals offered by e-commerce firms. People in Bihar had to vote for Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), a major constituent of the alliance, if they wanted Nitish Kumar, the efficient chief minister - and Janata Dal (United) leader - to win and continue in his post. This constrained the people from exercising their choices as they had to vote for the RJD, which is led by Prasad, who has been convicted in the fodder scam case. As it happens in combo deals, the electorate ended up paying more for what they desired the least - the RJD winning a large number of seats.
