Kanika Datta should be commended for raising some valid points in her column “Raisina Hill’s India Inc Club” (August 4). Cronyism in the group of industry leaders invited by the government is certainly evident. These industry captains are now busy mapping the world and it is high time the government broadens its horizon and reaches out to others as well as. For example, it was a welcome change when the government appointed Anand Mahindra as an independent director on the Air India Board last year. Ordinary citizens like me hoped (against hope) that his experience would do the beleaguered airline some good. But, he resigned much before time citing business reasons. Nevertheless, the government’s initiative to seek recommendations from industry captains is praiseworthy. However, the slow process of policy-making in the government is not in tune with today’s dynamic world. The need of the hour is to have good policies in a relatively short time.
