The Bhopal gas tragedy verdict has exposed the inherent weaknesses of India’s legal system and political establishment.
The manner in which Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson was allowed to fly out of the country after the industrial disaster is a clear pointer to this. How the head of an industrial unit, which had caused such a tragedy, was allowed to leave the country scot-free is the disturbing question on everyone’s mind now.
Extraditing Anderson will be a huge headache for India as the failed attempts at extraditing Quattrocchi in the Bofors payoffs case have shown.
