Two more Congress bastions, Haryana and Maharashtra, have fallen to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and it is becoming more apparent that the saffron party is riding the Modi wave. While the party scripted a historic win in Haryana, bagging 47 seats to get a clear majority, it has emulated the 1990 feat of the Congress in Maharashtra by bagging more than a 100 seats. The party's strategy of going it alone has certainly paid rich dividends. That the BJP victory came despite the absence of any state leader of substance is all the more creditable.
