Letters: BJP in a tizzy

You have done well (“Mining corruption”, July 20) to point out how the BJP is in a tizzy over the allegations against the Reddy brothers in Karnataka. But the real credit for this has to go to Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde who had the courage to carry on the investigation and, when the government did not act upon the report, tender resignation. By doing so, he also ensured the government did not take any action against relatively junior officials who had first pointed out the problems with regard to mining — normally, the government would have had no compunction in transferring them, but Justice Hegde’s resignation turned the spotlight on the issue and ensured the government thought twice before doing anything. Hats off to him — there are not too many public-spirited people like him in office today.
