Letters: BJP's bug-gate?

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
The more the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership denies the alleged bugging of Union minister Nitin Gadkari's house, the murkier the controversy becomes. It also exposes the BJP's lack of response. The home minister's outright rejection of the demand for a probe on the ground that Gadkari has denied such reports is to trivialise such reports with grave national security implications. The home minister must understand that this issue is not something personal to Gadkari. If a foreign agency, indeed, had a role in the bugging operation with or without the knowledge of those in power, as is alleged in some quarters, it exposes the country's vulnerability to such intrusive acts on our land. The Congress' response is measured and appropriate in demanding a thorough probe.
