This refers to the report "Goswami removed as Home Secretary, L C Goyal appointed to the post" (February 5). The Narendra Modi government deserves to be commended for its correct action in unceremoniously sacking the Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami, who allegedly tried to influence the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in trying to prevent the arrest of his friend Matang Sinh (a former Union minister in the United Progressive Alliance government) in the Saradha scam. This action is bound to send out clear signals to all unscrupulous politicians and bureaucrats that any attempt to influence the CBI to protect themselves, or their friends, would have serious repercussions, unlike in the past, when such instances were open secrets.

The Union government's unassailable action is also bound to be a shot in the arm for the premier investigating agency, prompting it to proceed against the accused in all cases, especially the high-profile ones.
