This refers to the report "On 'Mission 272', BJP reaches out to dalits, Muslims" (February 26). It is great news for the Muslim community that the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajnath Singh, is asking for a chance for the BJP in the forthcoming elections and said his party would seek forgiveness if it had committed any mistakes. We would be happier if the same words had been spoken by their prime ministerial candidate. The "if" in Singh's statement has created little doubt that he or his party still do not believe that they have committed major crimes against humanity such as the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the Gujarat and Muzaffarnagar riots and many other small riots in India. However, we take this statement in a positive sense that the BJP has realised its mistakes, and wants a chance to overcome them. Moving further, we would like to know the party's agenda, specifically for the Muslim community. We also want to know the policies they have in mind to safeguard the community from riots and what they plan to do for the development of Muslims. We are eagerly waiting to hear from the BJP president and their prime ministerial candidate.
