This refers to the editorial "New masters' voice" (October 6). By allowing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to telecast the speech of its chief Mohan Bhagwat live on Doordarshan (DD), the nexus between the right wing religious outfit and the Bharatiya Janata Party was exposed. It has dealt a blow to the nation's secular credentials. The live broadcast leaves a lot to be desired about the manner in which the state-owned media conducted itself. The approval clearly undermined the discretionary powers and the independent functioning of the national broadcaster.
The live telecast is an antithesis to the Narendra Modi-led government's slogan of achhe din (good days) since it spoils the social fabric of a multireligious society like ours. The way both Bhagwat in his live speech and Modi in his radio speech complimented each other shows the tacit approval of RSS views by the government.
