With the Budget now out, every financial analyst is pointing out its pros and cons. I felt this Budget manages to tick the right check boxes delivering on its promise of "acche din aane wale hain".
An objective cheaper versus costlier items comparison puts items such as LED and LCD below 19 inch, footwear, HIV/AIDS drugs, computers and so on in the cheaper side, while items such as cigarettes, aerated drinks with sugar, pan masala will now cost more. Clearly, this offers some respite to the common man, if not much. The personal tax sops including raising the basic exemption limit from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh and raising tax deduction limit from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh under section 80 C are welcome moves. The push in the infrastructure sector and public-private partnership (PPP) model clearly indicates the fiscal prudence of the government's intention.
