Letters: Budget wish

Business Standard New Delhi

The government should specifically think of the welfare of senior citizens in India. They should be given a pension of Rs 20,000 every month and all income should be tax-free like income from agriculture. Senior citizens are suffering from high inflation. Neglecting such a high chunk of population does not augur well for the government.

Recently, Air India allowed a 50 per cent  concession in fares for senior citizens from the armed forces. If the government is worried about the availability of finance, it can collect all the black money in the system, deposit it in Indian banks and the interest earned will be sufficient.
