Apropos the article "A new breed of campaigners" (July 8), a new breed of professionals, well qualified in their areas of operation, have started campaigning in large numbers after quitting lucrative jobs. This system gathered momentum after activist Anna Hazare started his fast against corruption at the Ramlila ground in Delhi, seeking passage of the Lok Pal Bill. Looking at the mass reaction, these individual professionals started getting attracted to this type of public upheaval and thought of changing the Indian corrupt administration based on their experience in Western countries, where individual opinions get prompt notice and the government acts fast.
They assumed that once these parties came to power, they would work for development, but gradually they realised there is no fundamental change in the working of the new government. Hence, they moved from the central scene to state-level elections with a new hope. Still, they don't realise it is difficult to change the system. Yes, they are making an impact but the process of change is very slow, irrespective of the party in power.
