Reports suggest that M K Azhagiri, Union minister and son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi, is not happy with his job. The problem is his inability to communicate in either English or Hindi. How can he participate in Cabinet meetings or in discussions in his ministry? Azhagiri was moved to Delhi by his father as he was marring the chances of M K Stalin, his step-brother, becoming the CM. The solution to the problem lies in swapping their positions. To meet the aspirations of all his children, a medium-term strategy for Karunanidhi will be to try to divide Tamil Nadu into three historical states — of the Pandyas, Cholas and Cheras, with capitals in Madurai, Thanjavur and Coimbatore, respectively. Chennai could become a Union Territory. Azhagiri, Stalin, Muthu (another son of Karuna) and Kanimozhi (daughter) could become CMs of these four entities.
