Letters: Deeply disappointed

One of the highlights of my career so far as a conservation scientist was being invited to deliver a talk at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in May 2013. I was amazed by the vibrancy and sheer academic quality fostered by the NMML. Under Prof Mahesh Rangarajan's leadership, the NMML had become a place where historians, sociologists, economists, educationists, wildlife biologists and academics from all spheres of research could meet and interact, be inspired, and inspire others towards attaining excellence.

Prof Rangarajan is a rare human being - an outstanding academic, a brilliant administrator, and deeply committed to the non-partisan, open-minded research that can make India a global academic powerhouse. It is deeply disappointing to see this government interfering with the leadership of institutions that have been helmed impeccably and are reservoirs of quality and inspiration. Prof Rangarajan will be sorely missed.
