This refers to Barun Roy’s article on racism against Indian students in Australia (‘Misguided protests’, June 18) where he has said Indian students in Australia need to handle the attacks at a personal level. We know that 1,400 students have been affected by this.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is known to be a calm and stable person, has been working for a year with his Australian counterpart to fix this. This is not a rare racist event, or a one-off event — that is something that can happen anywhere in the world. Repeated crimes, however, need to be stopped by the Australian authorities.
