With reference to the editorial, "Avoiding reform" (May 30), it is not right to criticise the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for putting major reforms on the back burner. The government has tried its best to push critical Bills - including the most important, Goods and Services Tax Bill - but has not succeeded due to the obstructionist attitude of the Congress.
An all-India template for land acquisition would have been ideal, but considering the slow pace at which things are known to proceed between the Centre and the states, especially if the parties in power in the two power zones are different, we must be content with the progress made.
The Assembly elections victory in Assam should boost the BJP's morale to win the next round of polls - in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Manipur. The more it wins the larger its presence will be in the Upper House of Parliament.
