Letters: E-filing woes

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
All assessees are expected to file their income tax returns (ITR) every year. The government encourages e-filing, but it has not put any proper systems in place. We are in the middle of June and the filing deadline is July 31 but most of the e-filing forms are yet to be notified. The Budget was passed for the assessment year 2014-15 as early as March 2013. Why does it take such a long time to upload the e-forms on the income tax website?

Also, the website does not seem to have even the basic bandwidth to handle the returns that flood in by the last week of July. If the mechanism to file returns is up and ready by April 1, most of the simple returns can be filed early without any hassle.
