Vanita Kohli-Khandekar’s column (‘Can we have more films please?’, October 21) is an interesting read, on low product diversity in cinema offerings. (I wonder if the sachet revolution or Nano revolution will come to Indian cinema?). Have you thought about whether the lack of electricity may be a big reason for the limited spread of cinema beyond “people like us” niche markets? Diesel generators as backup may be okay for factories or critical functions, but they kill the economics of showing low-cost cinema. Speaking of electricity, the article that appeared above Kohli-Khandekar’s column [‘Paying through one’s nose (again) for Dabhol’, October 21] by Latha Jishnu is a classic (and extremely sad) power story in India.
