Letters: Ending dynasty politics

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to the editorial "Fix the responsibility" (May 27). The Congress won a mere 44 Lok Sabha seats, which is not enough to be a principal Opposition in Parliament. The party could have done much better without Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. If the top leadership failed to contribute to its fortunes, shouldn't the party take an unanimous decision and put the party before the dynasty? In the wake of the humiliating defeat, the Congress still reposing its faith in the Gandhis shows the Grand Old Party's failure to see the writing on the wall. After conceding to a poor show in the elections under their leadership, the chairperson and the vice-president of the Congress shouldn't have allowed themselves to be persuaded so easily to retract their resignations. If introspection holds key to the party's revival, and reforming itself after the poll debacle, the Congress should start electing young leaders from outside the Gandhi family and entrust them with responsibilities and powers.
