It is disturbing to note that the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is going to adopt some fresh restrictions on the transfer of enrichment and reprocessing equipment and technology. This proposed move is in total violation of the 2008 clause that had given a clean and unconditional waiver to India’s nuclear trade.
It may be recalled that NSG had given unconditional waiver to India in 2008 despite the latter being a non-signatory to both the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. In fact, the 2008 NSG waiver had demonstrated India as a global leader in nuclear club. The latest U-turn by NSG is worrisome.
