This refers to the report “Purti changed our lives, say farmers” (November 7). Purti group’s actions have benefited farmers and their living standards have improved, but that cannot be used as a justification for wrongdoing, including land-grabbing. It is being suggested that while Nitin Gadkari may have done wrong, it has benefited the people — implying that his wrongdoing may not be wrong after all. It may be pertinent to note that Judge Rakoff in Rajat Gupta’s case said no amount of good deeds could give a licence to do wrong. Thus, a wrong moral conclusion has been drawn, implying that, “Hey, so what if Gadkari grabbed the land, he did it to benefit others.”
