It is difficult to understand the logic behind Rajiv Bajaj’s statement that the company was planning to stop the production of scooters and instead focus only on motorcycles. In the past, companies like Bajaj Auto suffered when, because of the excessive focus on motorcycles, they missed out on the recent boom in gearless scooters.
One wonders if the same thing will happen once again. If leading automobile firms like Suzuki can produce both motorcycles as well as cars, it is difficult to understand why Bajaj cannot produce both scooters and motorcycles at the same time.
