Letters: Happy holidays?

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to the Chinese Whispers item "Holiday notice: 2015" (December 9). To improve the working system in the government and public sector undertakings and to bring employees out of the "slumber" of holiday mood, it is high time the Narendra Modi government did away with holidays that are mostly influenced by different religious groups and sometimes centenary celebrations. The government should declare only three national holidays - Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhiji's birthday.

Instead, employees should be allowed to avail of nine paid holidays of their choice and at their convenience. This way citizens can deal with the government/civic agencies without taking a holiday for the specific purpose. And it will also discourage the staff to prefix/suffix the falling holidays, thus disrupting the working in the offices.
