Letters: Hold Swaraj liable

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
Apropos the report, "If helping Lalit Modi's wife was a crime, then I am guilty: Sushma Swaraj" (August 7), on the one hand the External Affairs Minister challenges anybody to prove that she helped disgraced former IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi; on the other she asks what wrong she has done by helping a cancer-stricken woman.

But Sushma Swaraj committed a blunder by bringing Sonia Gandhi into the picture, asking if the Congress President would have done anything different had she been in her place. Gandhi rejected this notion saying, "Swaraj is an expert in theatrics".

It's clear that Swaraj tried to help a fugitive-friend - her husband and daughter are Modi's lawyers - citing "humanitarian grounds". The country's external affairs ministry has ended up assisting a fugitive and therefore, Swaraj is liable.
