Letters: How did it happen?

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to the editorial "The disease of dynasty" (August 2). We need to ask ourselves: Why did dynasty politics of the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Samajwadi Party flourished for so long. It's because we, the voters, have allowed these parties to take us for granted.

At a time when change is the only constant in the world, these parties stuck to promoting dynastic politics. But things are changing. From voters' perspective, it is becoming more restless. The demand is for good governance.

As rightly mentioned in the editorial, internal democracy is the most critical aspect of any political party. Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left, which are poles apart in their ideology, remain the only parties to thrive on internal democracy. This disease of dynasty is likely to start eroding away from the political landscape of the country.

But the million-dollar question is: Which of these parties will take the lead and come out of their comfort zone to promote internal democracy? There is no dearth of fresh faces and ideas but sadly, they are never allowed to thrive because of elephant-sized egos of their leaders.
