India Inc now has to come to terms with the reality that teams work only as long as there is one undisputed leader. KV Kamath was said to have built a great team which worked seamlessly to build a great ICICI Bank. Yet, once he left and appointed one member of the team in his place, the team fell apart. Each member that failed to make it to the corner office felt slighted and decided that heading a smaller organisation was better than playing second-fiddle to a former colleague. This is a serious HR concern as it means that an entire management gets destabilised with the top man going. Do companies and HR teams keep this in mind when they plan their HR strategies and groom leaders for the future?
