This refers to ‘Quote, unquote’, September 22 and the furore over the remarks made by minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor. Both Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor come from a background which is very different from that of ordinary politicians. Both are well-educated successful professionals who could very well have jobs in other sectors if they were not politicians. Being intelligent, humour comes naturally to them. Unfortunately, in India, we equate humour with being rude.
