Isn’t it strange that judges — the greatest champions of transparency — should be wanting to hide their own assets. This is being done on the ostensible grounds that the judges don’t want anyone to be misusing the details of their assets. But surely this applies to others as well? Anyone can take the assets of MPs and use this to allege corruption on their part. The reason why this does not happen, however, is that the mere possession of wealth is not taken to be a crime in itself. Only if there is some other evidence against an MP, will the details of the assets be used. The same principle will apply to the judges. If there is an allegation of corruption against them, then they can be asked questions as to how they acquired these assets. So what are the judges worried about?
