Letters: Judging judges

Business Standard New Delhi

Scaling Justice is a must-read for all political parties in the country (‘Do judges measure up?’, February 5) for it conclusively shows that the police, as a matter of routine, haul up more Muslims than they do Hindus. BJP leaders obviously need to read the book since it has so much data and analyses to show that anti-terror laws are more abused than used, and the conviction rate in them is very poor — even the Americans seem to have realised this with President Barack Obama ordering the closing down of the Guantanamo Bay detention base. But, since bulk of these arrests have taken place under ‘secular’ governments, other parties would also do well to read the analyses.

It would be a good idea to publish such data and studies regularly, and in a more public fashion, to alert concerned citizens to the manner in which democracy is being thwarted.
