On Rajyotsava Day, when all the newspapers in Bangalore wrote about Karnataka and its people, a column, "Cosmopolitan at heart?" (Worm's Eye View, November 1), disparaging south Indians appeared in Business Standard. A good part of the column deals with some grievances relating to the celebration of a Bengali festival in the colony. Some of it is misplaced indignation over the doubtful right of a doctor (the author's mother) to set up a clinic in a residential complex, regardless of objection from neighbours and the residents' committee.
On November 1, The Hindu published an insightful article titled "The 'nice guy' Kannadiga", about the "non-aggressive, friendly people of Karnataka who welcome and embrace all that come their way". People from other states should not bring quarrelsome ways here to disrupt the harmony that is natural to Karnataka.
