In an excellent article, Ajit Ranade has comprehensively discussed the current labour and capital issues (“Labour and capital - An unequal tussle,” October 25). The good news is that rural wages are growing in India. The bad news is that there is a significant loss of production due to the conflict between capital and labour like in the case of Maruti, Dunlop and GM. This loss of production is a social and deadweight loss. It is important to arrive at a solution to this problem quickly otherwise labour-capital conflicts will create a tide against growth in the country.
