Barun Roy (“Faster forward”, July 1) is right to observe that only those “who think a 85 kmph train is a Duranto” will suggest that the Chinese are “crazy” to conceive of trains using Evacuated Tube Transport technology to move at speeds of 4,000 kmph. Once the Chinese set their minds on a goal, they attain it — and they don’t muddle through. As for Indian Railways, Mamata Banerjee, obsessed as she is with West Bengal politics, will run it into the ground before anyone can say “Writer’s Building”.
