Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to the report "US FDA India head quits; regulator goes for rejig" (July 21). Many expensive drugs are imported from the US. India should also set up an office in the US to check whether the drugs that are exported to India comply with US and Indian laws. The US Food and Drug Administration or FDA in India conducts regular quality inspections in the plants of Indian pharmaceutical companies. There have been cases where bans and penalties have been imposed on Indian drugs. Offices should also be set up in Europe and other major countries. After all, India is a growing economy and we need safeguards too.
