<b>Letters:</b> Modi's Achilles heel?

Apropos Shreekant Sambrani's column "The Narendra Modi sweepstakes" (Et Cetera, October 21), three attributes have contributed to Narendra Modi's sweeping success from Gujarat to the Lok Sabha elections and then in Maharashtra and Haryana. First, he is a calculating risk-taker, exemplified by his decision to employ Amit Shah's untested strategic election skills in Uttar Pradesh or breaking the alliance with the Shiv Sena.

Second, his communication skills have helped enhance his mass appeal. He tailors his message to the needs of the audience and laces them with fluency and appropriate body language.

Third, Modi has earned the credibility of the people substantially (though he is yet to deliver on many fronts). This attribute has been a critical factor in his victories so far. But if he fails to meet the expectations of the masses soon, it could prove to be his Achilles heel.
