Letters: More curbs needed

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
That the Patna High Court has granted bail to a criminal, who had been convicted for life and had several cases of murder, assault and kidnapping registered against him, is a cause of extreme concern.

The mafia's tightening grip on elections, the police, businesses and even educational institutions and local bodies in populous states such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar calls for urgent institutional reforms, including bail restrictions and being barred from contesting in the polls.

Also, some curbs on glorifying crime and criminals in our films and television are desirable as these have the tendency to influence young minds. Fortunately, the glorification of brutality and criminality on screen can be checked through a stricter but less capricious censor board.
